Dr. Steven J. LoCascio isn’t the type of person who likes to trumpet his accomplishments. Unless you know one of his patients, you might have no clue that he has been quietly transforming lives in the East Tennessee area for more than a decade.
Many dentists and prosthodontists perform cosmetic procedures that give their patients a boost in confidence, but few are willing to take on the complicated reconstructive procedures that transform a patient’s life. Take, for example, the patient that lost half of her jaw to an aggressive tumor and, as a result, was too embarrassed to interact with family and friends. Dr. LoCascio collaborated with a remarkably talented team of oral surgeons and other medical professionals to help this patient overcome her functional and cosmetic problems. At the end of the process, she wasn’t ashamed of her appearance and could once again sing in her church choir.
You can’t put a price tag on giving someone his or her life back, and this story is just one out of many. Facilitating this kind of transformation is Dr. LoCascio’s great passion in life.
He received his dental degree from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans and completed a General Practice Residency at the Medical Center of Louisiana, Charity Hospital. After returning to LSU to pursue advanced training in restorative dentistry, he earned specialty certificates in Prosthodontics and Maxillofacial Prosthetics.
All dental treatments are not created equal, and Dr. LoCascio’s extra education and specialization in complex procedures, such as fabricating dentures, designing smile makeovers, and restoring implants have enabled him to offer enhanced results and the type of personalized service that patients need to get back to living full, healthy lives.
A member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of Osseointegration, and the American College of Prosthodontists, Dr. LoCascio also loves to teach. He serves as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee, and as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was inducted into the American College of Dentists in October of 2013, an honor awarded to those dentists that have demonstrated and promoted excellence, ethics, professionalism, and leadership in dentistry.
